This chapter contains information on family characteristics of the Total DoD Force based on DoD Active Duty and Selected Reserve family data. Coast Guard and Coast Guard Reserve families are not included in this section. All of the data referring to dependents (i.e., spouses, children, and adult dependents) are extracted from the Defense Enrollment & Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS). Dependents who are not registered in DEERS are excluded; therefore, the data are likely to be underreported.
