Chapter 3: Reserve and Guard Members

This chapter contains demographic data on the reserve and Guard population – to include DOD reserve and Guard components and DHS Coast Guard Reserve.

The first section presents information on ready reserve personnel, which are comprised of selected reserve, the Individual Ready Reserve, and the Inactive National Guard. The remaining sections in this chapter focus on the selected reserve members who train throughout the year and participate annually in active-duty training exercises. The specific characteristics of the selected reserve components addressed in this chapter include gender, race and ethnicity, geographic location (based on assigned unit location), age, education level and retirements and losses.
